Available Courses:
Hubs & Parts of the Bike:
Come learn about bike anatomy! By the end of the course, you’ll be able to name all of the parts of your bike and have a basic understanding of the importance of each part, what it does and how it works. We’ll be focusing on bike hubs (where the spokes attach to your bike). We’ll learn about how hubs work and how they help your wheels to spin.
Wheel Truing & Assessment:
Learn about one of the trickiest and most important aspects of bikes-wheel truing (straightening). We’ll learn how to evaluate a bike wheel as to whether it can be saved with spoke adjustment (truing techniques) or if too much wear and tear has occurred for salvaging the wheel. While learning truing techniques, you’ll also learn about other important aspects of bike wheels including spokes and rims.
Headsets & Frame Assessment:
A great chance to learn about the “headset”, the assembly that connects the front fork of your bike to the frame and allows the fork of your bike to turn, steer and balance. We’ll learn about the different types of headsets, headset anatomy and how to service them. We’ll also learn about the main component of a bicycle, the frame! We’ll learn about frame materials, sizes and serviceability.
Bottom Brackets:
Spend a class learning about the part of your bike frame where the pedal cranks revolve-the bottom bracket. Found in a variety of sizes, by the end of the class you’ll learn how to recognize a one piece and a three piece cottored and cotterless crank bottom bracket along with the difference between a standard, French and Italian bottom bracket. We’ll learn how to disassemble and work on bottom brackets, assess and install cranks and chain rings and install and remove pedals.
Brakes & Cable Theory:
Want to learn what Barrel Adjusters are? You can! Take a class to learn how the cables work on your bike work, how to identify different types of brakes and the basic steps of adjusting brakes.
Gears and Chain Theory:
What’s your pedaling speed? Learn how your “cadence” is impacted by the gears you select on your bike. Learn the ins and outs of gears, shifting and the role your chain has in making it all possible.
